Session Description: This session is designed for pre-college educators and will explore the following topics.

Session Description: These college admissions experts will provide a plethora of knowledge around the college admissions process, financial aid and scholarships, and working with TRIO specific populations. Starting from the high school side, Lesley Klecan will review tips for crafting college application essays and activity lists. Then, Amanda and Brittany will discuss scholarship and financial aid opportunities at 4-year public universities. The conversation will turn to TRIO student populations. Evelia and Christy will speak about their GANAS programs at Central Oregon Community College; and the presentation will end with Stephanie Beamer focusing on a case study: TRIO student populations.

Session Description: This 4-hour interactive training is geared for newcomers! We will begin with an exciting review of TRIO history, including NAEOP and OR specific story telling. Once Inspired by the Impact TRIO Programs can make, attendees will then be versed in the overarching legislation and regulations that guide our work today. Providing a newcomer with the tools to begin their work on a solid foundation and protect them for compliance conundrums.
Trail Walk, A Transformational Learning Experience

Session Description: All TRIO professionals have transformed themselves through education. Phillip Dirks has been using transformational trail walks as a best practice in Upward Bound for 20 years now. Walk along this guided hike and stop at specific stations to reflect on your life as a TRIO professional and on your life in general. Learn how to use the natural environment as a reflection tool to enhance your own vision and ground yourself in your life purpose. Learn about this model for your own use or come along for your own experience.
Understanding the Many Constellations of Trauma: Trauma Informed Care in Context
Presenter: Megan Petrucelli, LMFT - Child & Family Therapist, Trillium Family Services
Session Description: Trauma Informed Care has become a notable buzz word in all fields that involve interactions between the community and service providers, but what does Trauma Informed Care really mean and how is it put into practice? This workshop will explore the ways in which traumatic events impact one’s ability to manage stress and will outline how to identify and respond to the behaviors that result from experiences of trauma. You will leave with a better understanding of what it means to be a Trauma Informed provider and have concrete tools to help you apply this knowledge in your workplace and in the community.
Mindfulness: The Direct Experience of Well-Being

Session Description: In this workshop we'll focus on a direct experience of well-being with mindfulness. Mindfulness is both a set of skills and a way of being that supports mental, emotional, and physical health. For educators and youth-serving professionals facing chronic stress and overwhelm, mindfulness can be a game-changer. We'll introduce basic mindfulness practices and explore how mindfulness can support our relationship with ourselves, with youth, and with friends and family. Join a classroom educator from Peace in Schools, a national leader in mindfulness education, for an engaging—and possibly life-changing—training.

Empowering Student from Poverty into and Through STEM Programs
Presenter: Amy Verlanic - Executive Director, Institute for Educational Opportunities, Montana Tech
Session Description: We are all Warriors or Worriers. Over the course of evolution, both Warriors and Worriers were necessary for human tribes to survive. Using neuroscience as a tool to self-awareness is one of several interventions tested over the last twelve years with three cohort groups of low-income students in Montana Tech’s STEM programs. The program, designed to increase baccalaureate STEM completion rates of disadvantaged students, was very successful. Join in a Critical Conversation about how this projects lessons and others you have experienced are transferrable best practices for TRIO programs.

Session Description: This presentation will provide an overview of general financial aid terms, financial aid opportunitues, grants and scholarships for students in Oregon, and will also review some important tips to share with students as they search and apply for financial aid opportunities.

Session Description: TRIO has had multiple victories in the past five years including over $170 Million increase, the re-reading of Upward Bound grants eliminated due to formatting errors and the defeat of an amendment to divert $60 Million dollars to Career and Technical Education, making TRIO a household name in the House of Representatives. But what makes TRIO so successful in a Trump America and how can our community continue the winning streak for first-generation, low-income students nationwide? Come and learn the fundamental components in effective TRIO advocacy, and learn how to develop a strategy to maximize engagement with your Members of Congress. Get aquatinted with what’s really going on with TRIO in our nation’s capital and how the next fight for our community will unfold with the upcoming Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.

Session Description: This session will take your knowledge of the financial aid process a little deeper by providing tips for the FAFSA and ORSAA, IRS Data Retrieval Tool and tax return transcripts, and verification process. We will also discuss tips to help undocumented students and parents navigate educational funding. Please join us for these helpful resources.
